Siding Procedures

We replace all rotten wood, which is included in the price.
When installing siding and trim, you must have a solid surface to nail to. If it won't hold a nail, we replace it, no questions asked.
-Manufacturers written specification.

We also nail down any loose panels, boards, or shingles.
Surface preparation makes all the difference in the look of the finished product.

We scrape off all loose caulking and re-caulk all large cracks as necessary around windows and doors.
Every step we can take to increase energy efficiency is worth it.
-Manufacturers written specification.

Before installing corner posts, a water resistant material such as house wrap, or field formed flashing (10" minimum around each side) should be applied to prevent water and air infiltration.
Again, going the extra mile for your security.
-Manufacturers written specification.

We make sure that the bottom sheet is even with other courses of siding.
Building it out as necessary.

After the insulation is applied, we cover the exposed edge both for looks, waterproofing and to help keep the "critters" out.
As you can see, it makes a difference.
-Aikey procedure.

Every step of the way, Aikey Construction is committed to insuring that you get the most value for every dollar spent. It is critical not just to choose the right products, but also choosing a company that gives you an all out effort to provide you with a quality finished product. And with that quality finished product comes peace of mind with this investment.

J-Channels are designed to receive siding panels and must be installed around all windows, doors, along shingles at roof line, etc.
Water runoff can also be accomplished by making a series of notches and tabs in the J-Channel.

J-Channels must be installed in this order:

  • Bottom
  • Sides
  • Top

Our J-Channels are mitered at the corners to prevent gaps and to allow for proper water drainage.

Diverters should be used at the base of all openings.
This will divert water from the J-Cannel into the siding butt and force the water to come out in the very first course of siding that the water comes to.

We make sure that your lights hang straight and your vents don't attract undue attention.

We even have special products for receptacles and faucets. These products not only look good, they are safety improvements as well.

Vinyl louvers of every size, shape and color are available to complement your home.

We plug the top and bottom of every corner post.
Again to keep the "critters" out, and to give us something to caulk against at the top. This makes sure that
they'll have to move on to another place.
-Aikey procedure.

We make sure that the top sheet of siding never falls out with a metal perma-tab.
It holds the shape of the crimp, and never lets go of the siding or the piece of finish trim. We can also use the Alcoa 2 piece crown mold system.

Our idea for waterproofing your gable trim is second to none.
First we install the siding and insulation, and then the rake board laps down over the siding. This guarantees that no water will get in at the rake. Also, we drill every rake board to insure good expansion and contraction. This helps eliminate ripples. Others typically trim the rake board first and then place a J-Channel up against the rake board. Sometimes they caulk it, sometimes they don't.

We cut holes in the soffit as needed to give you added ventilation.
This is important because your louvers, or ridge vent need to be able to draw cool air from below to help force out the hot air from your attic.

As you can see, there are ways to retain the details of your home, and then there are shortcuts as shown on these porch beams.

The attention to detail truly is what separates Aikey Construction from its competitors.
Contour blocks are called contour blocks for a reason. They're supposed to have contour to them.
